Frances Overy

Frances is a contemporary textile artist who combines hand stitch with machine embroidery and mixed media, she uses traditional techniques in a modern, innovative manner attempting to combine this with unusual metal thread work and other techniques.  She takes inspiration from surroundings at home and away, historical artefacts and scientific discoveries & adventures. She studied “Textiles” with the Open College of the Arts and was awarded C&G level 2 in “embroidery” before being invited to join TOPstitch. She has exhibited independently, with the Embroiderers’ Guild and with TOPstitch. She has participated in “Open Studios”.

Talking Heads

Frances also needle felts backgrounds for small embroideries taking inspiration from the country and coast.


Her commercial work is held in private collections.

She is a member of TOPstitch, Threadheads, a small experimental textile art group, and STARS (Stitch and Textile Art in Suffolk). For several years she was very active in “The 76group” the Norwich Branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild, it closed in 2021.
