Frances Overy

Frances is a contemporary textile artist who combines hand stitch with machine embroidery and mixed media, she uses traditional techniques in a modern, innovative manner attempting to combine this with unusual metal thread work and other techniques.  She takes inspiration from surroundings at home and away, historical artefacts and scientific discoveries & adventures. She studied “Textiles” with the Open College of the Arts and was awarded C&G level 2 in “embroidery” before being invited to join TOPstitch. She has exhibited independently, with the Embroiderers’ Guild and with TOPstitch. She has participated in “Open Studios”.

Frances enjoys needle felting backgrounds for small embroideries:


Her commercial work is held in private collections.

She is a keen textile sketchbook creator.

She is a member of TOPstitch, Threadheads, a small experimental textile art group, Suffolk West Embroiderers’ Guild branch and “The 76group” the Norwich Branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild of which she is currently chairman.
