Frances Overy

Frances is a contemporary textile artist who combines hand stitch with machine embroidery and mixed media, she uses traditional techniques in a modern, innovative manner attempting to combine this with unusual metal thread work and thread work techniques.  She takes inspiration from surroundings at home and away, historical artefacts and scientific discoveries & adventures. She studied “Textiles” with the Open College of the Arts and was awarded C&G level 2 in “embroidery” before being invited to join TOPstitch. She has exhibited independently, with the Embroiderers’ Guild and with TOPstitch. Her commercial work is held in private collections.

She is an keen textile sketchbook creator.

She is a member of TOPstitch, Threadheads, a small experimental textile art group and “The 76group” the Norwich Branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild of which she is currently chairman.

The first black and white pictures from the European Space Agency’s Rosetta spacecraft and Philae lander on the surface of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko inspired this mixed media piece.
