Janet Fletcher

I was first introduced to hand embroidery by my grandmother who taught me the basic stitches which were popular in the 1940s and 50s. I still prefer to use these stitches but like to alter them by using various thicknesses of wool and embroidery threads to produce abstract designs and more textured pieces. My favourite subjects are rural scenes, trees and country gardens. I also have an interest in antique textiles and sometimes incorporate damaged pieces in my work. I love French knots!
